Terms of Service

This document is in English, which is the version that applies.

These terms of service ("Terms") are the agreement between you and Mapraow Labs Pte. Ltd. ("Cardie," "we," "us," or "our") for using Cardie. "Cardie" here means all of it: the iPhone and Android apps, the Apple Watch and Wear OS apps, the web app at app.cardie.golf, and the Cardie connector for AI apps (together, "the Service"). By signing in and using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.

These Terms replace the previous version (what's changing). If you've accepted an earlier version, it keeps applying to you until the App asks you to accept this one.

Browsing our website at cardie.golf without signing in is covered by our separate Website Terms of Use. How we handle your data is described in our Privacy Policy.

This document is written in English as the authoritative version. Translations are provided for convenience; in case of any conflict, this English version governs.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to use Cardie. By signing in, you confirm that you are. If we become aware that a user is under 16, we will close their account and delete their data.

2. Your Account

2.1 Signing in

You sign in to Cardie with Apple or Google. The same account works in the app, on the watch apps and in the web app at app.cardie.golf. You are responsible for keeping access to the Apple or Google account you sign in with.

2.2 One real golfer

Your account should represent one real person: you. Handicaps, leaderboards and events only work if everyone plays as themselves.

2.3 Security

You are responsible for activity under your account, including activity by any AI app you connect to it (see Section 8). If you think your account has been compromised, contact us at support@cardie.golf.

3. The Service

Cardie is a platform for amateur golfers. It includes, among other things:

Scan: photograph a paper scorecard and Cardie turns it into a digital round, using automated image recognition. A daily rate limit applies to scans on every plan, to keep the Service fair and reliable.
Live rounds: score on your phone or watch while you play, with GPS distances to the front, middle and back of the green and to layups, automatic hole detection, and a lock-screen Live Activity.
Watch apps: Apple Watch and Wear OS apps that show distances, keep score and record shots, and that can save the round as a golf workout in your own Apple Health or Health Connect.
Shots and clubs: record where each shot started and finished and which club you used, and see your longest shots and shot maps.
Your bag: keep your club set-up, typed in or read from a photo of your clubs.
Track: your rounds, scores, pace of play, statistics and trends.
Handicap: the Cardie handicap, modelled on the World Handicap System™ method, and a downloadable handicap certificate (see Section 10).
Share: round summaries and AI-written round recaps you can share.
Groups and events: groups for your society or regular four-ball, with feeds, monthly and all-time leaderboards, head-to-head comparisons, and events in stroke play, stableford, skins and other formats, at one course or remotely.
Social: reactions and views on rounds, team rounds recorded by a playing partner, and invite links and QR codes.
Courses: a shared course database, course photos, and anonymous course statistics (see Section 6.5).
AI features: round recaps, explanations of your handicap, reading your bag from a photo, and the Cardie connector for AI apps such as Claude and ChatGPT (see Section 8).
Club offers: optional offers from golf clubs inside Cardie (see Section 9).
Your data: download a copy of your data from the web app, or ask us for it, at any time.
Weather: conditions for your rounds and courses (a Pro feature).

We may add, change or remove features. If a change materially reduces what you've paid for, we'll tell you before it takes effect.

4. Free Use and Cardie Pro

4.1 Free

Every account gets 5 free personal rounds. Rounds you play in an event are always free and don't count towards the 5. Every round you save stays visible in your history, whether or not you have Pro. Free users can join groups and events.

4.2 Cardie Pro

Cardie Pro is a paid subscription. It includes, among other things, unlimited rounds, live GPS on the watch, the handicap certificate, creating groups and events beyond the free limits, advanced stats and trends, weather, and AI features. The App shows what's included and the current free limits before you buy.

4.3 Where you buy

Cardie Pro is sold through the Apple App Store and Google Play ("the Store"). The Store is the seller: it takes your payment, and its terms and payment rules apply alongside these Terms. We never see your card details.

4.4 Price

The price, billing period (monthly or yearly) and any offer are shown in the App before you buy, in your local currency as set by the Store. Prices may vary by region.

4.5 Free trials and introductory offers

We may offer a free trial or an introductory price, such as a discount on your first year. The App shows the offer, how long it lasts and the full price that follows before you buy. When the trial or offer ends, your subscription continues at the full price shown, unless you cancel before it ends. Offers are one per eligible account, as the Store decides. If you buy a subscription during a free trial, any unused part of the trial ends.

4.6 Automatic renewal

Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period, at the then-current price, and the Store charges you, until you cancel. With Apple, you need to cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period to avoid the next charge. With Google, cancel before the renewal date. Deleting the App or your Cardie account does not cancel your subscription.

4.7 Cancelling

You can cancel at any time in your Apple ID or Google Play subscription settings. You keep Pro until the end of the period you've paid for.

4.8 Refunds

Refunds are handled by the Store, under its refund policy. We can't issue refunds for Store purchases ourselves, but we're happy to help you ask.

4.9 Right of withdrawal (EU, EEA and UK)

If you're a consumer in the EU, the EEA or the UK, you have the right to withdraw from a purchase within 14 days, without giving a reason. Cardie Pro starts as soon as you buy it, and you ask for that when you complete the purchase. If you withdraw within the 14 days, the Store may keep or charge an amount for the time you've already used, as the law allows. You exercise this right through the Store's refund or cancellation process. You can also tell us at support@cardie.golf, and we'll help.

4.10 Price changes

If the price of your subscription goes up, the Store tells you in advance, and where its rules require it, asks you to agree. If you don't agree, you can cancel before the new price applies.

4.11 When Pro ends

When your subscription ends, Pro features stop. Your data stays: every round, stat and group you have remains in your account. Groups and events you created keep working for their members, but some organiser actions may need Pro again.

4.12 Buying directly from us

If we ever sell Pro directly, rather than through a Store, the price, billing, renewal, cancellation, refund and withdrawal terms will be shown to you before you buy, and they'll be no less favourable to you than this Section 4.

4.13 Your statutory rights

Nothing in these Terms takes away rights you have under the consumer law of the country you live in.

5. Live Rounds, GPS and Watches

5.1 Location during a live round

Live rounds use your device's GPS, including in the background while the round runs, so distances, hole detection, shot recording and the Live Activity keep working when your phone is in your pocket. The App asks for this permission when you start your first live round, and you control it in your device settings. Without it, you can still scan scorecards and enter scores.

5.2 Distances are guidance

GPS distances are estimates. They depend on your device, the signal and the course mapping, and they can be wrong. Check the local rules or committee terms of your competition before you use a distance-measuring device. You're responsible for how you play.

5.3 Play safely

Don't look at your phone or watch when it isn't safe to: while driving a buggy, near a player swinging, or anywhere you'd normally keep your eyes up.

5.4 Apple Health and Health Connect

If you turn it on, the watch app saves your round as a golf workout in your own Apple Health (Apple Watch) or Health Connect (Wear OS), including heart rate, active energy and distance. That data goes to your Health app, under Apple's or Google's terms. Cardie doesn't receive it (see our Privacy Policy).

6. Your Content

6.1 Ownership

Everything you add to Cardie is yours: scorecard and round photos, scores, shots, your bag, and event entries. You can use it over the Cardie connector, download it, or delete it at any time.

6.2 License to Cardie

So we can run the Service, you give Cardie a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, process, display and transmit your content as the Service needs. That includes reading your scorecards, writing round recaps, calculating your handicap, showing your rounds to the groups and events you've joined, and sending data to an AI app when you've connected one. This license ends when your content is deleted, except for content other members already hold (such as an event leaderboard that's already published) and anonymous statistics (Section 6.5).

6.3 What other golfers see

Groups: members of your groups can see your rounds, scores, stats, Cardie handicap, rating basis badge, profile tier and Pro badge. You can hide a round from a group's feed and stats with the round's exclude toggle, and you can leave a group at any time.
Events: when you submit a round to an event, other participants see your name, scores, handicap (if used), rating basis and scorecard image on the leaderboard. Organisers may assign handicaps to players who don't have a Cardie handicap.
Team rounds: a playing partner can record a round that includes you. You'll see it on your account, and members of the groups it's shared with can see it.
Reactions and views: when you react to a round, the owner and others who can see that round see your reaction and who you are. Round owners can see how many people viewed their round; Pro owners can see who.
Your bag: any signed-in golfer can see which clubs you carry on your profile. Golfers who share a private group with you can also see lofts and set distances. None of this shows if your account is hidden or deleted.
Longest shot: anyone who can see a round also sees its longest recorded shot, as a distance and club. GPS tracks and your other shots stay private to you.
Invites: invite links and QR codes let anyone who has them ask to join the group or event they belong to.
Round summaries: a summary you share outside Cardie can be seen by anyone you share it with.
AI apps: a group member who connects an AI app to Cardie can use it to read what they can already see in their groups, including your rounds there. If you're in mainland China, members' AI apps only see your rounds if you've allowed it (see the Privacy Policy, China Addendum).

6.4 Community course data

Course details you add, such as names, pars, stroke indexes, tees, slope and rating, become part of the shared Cardie course database. They are facts about golf courses, not personal data, and they stay in the database if you delete your account. Course photos you submit are visible to all users.

6.5 Anonymous course statistics

Using Cardie includes contributing your rounds, anonymously, to statistics about the courses you play. These include scoring by handicap band, hole difficulty, pace of play, conditions, and where shots typically finish on each hole. We show these to other golfers, through Cardie's AI tools, and to golf clubs. A course figure appears only once it has at least 20 rounds from at least 5 different golfers, and never from one golfer's rounds alone. Nobody can see your individual contribution. Clubs get aggregates only, never your rounds, your positions or your identity.

6.6 Improving scorecard recognition

We may use scorecard images to improve our scorecard recognition. Images used this way aren't associated with your identity, and they're deleted with your account as described in our Privacy Policy.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

submit fabricated or altered scorecards, or rounds you didn't play;
create more than one account, or use someone else's, to affect handicaps, leaderboards or events;
interfere with the Service or its infrastructure, or try to get around its limits or security;
reverse-engineer, decompile or disassemble the apps, except where the law allows it;
access the Service by automated means other than the Cardie connector used as intended, or scrape or collect other users' data;
use the Service for anything unlawful;
harass, abuse, threaten or spam other users, including through reactions, views, invites or events;
impersonate anyone or misrepresent who you are.

We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules.

8. AI Features and AI Connectors

8.1 AI features in Cardie

Some features use AI: round recaps, explanations of your handicap, reading your bag from a photo, and scorecard recognition. AI output can be wrong or incomplete. Check what matters before you rely on it.

8.2 Connecting an AI app

You can connect an AI app, such as Claude or ChatGPT, to your Cardie account through the Cardie connector. You sign in with Cardie at app.cardie.golf and approve the connection on our consent page. Once connected, the AI app can use the connector's tools, and only those tools: it can read your rounds, scores, handicap, stats, the groups, feeds and leaderboards you're a member of, events and course statistics, and it can create, edit and publish events for you. It can't reach anything else in your account.

8.3 You direct it, the AI company handles it

When you connect an AI app, you're instructing us to send it the data it asks for through the connector. Once data reaches the AI app, it's handled by the company behind it (for example Anthropic or OpenAI) under that company's terms and privacy policy, not ours. We don't control what the AI app does with your data, how long it keeps it, or whether it uses it to train models. That depends on your settings with that company.

8.4 What the AI does counts as you

Actions an AI app takes through the connector, such as creating or publishing an event, are treated as actions you took. Publishing an event notifies the group's members, so the connector asks for confirmation first. We may limit how often an AI app can act (for example, how many events it can publish in a day) to protect groups from mistakes and spam. Creating and publishing events needs Pro, or the free rounds that come with a new account.

8.5 Disconnecting

You can disconnect an AI app at any time in the web app under Profile → Connected apps, or by asking us at support@cardie.golf. Disconnecting stops new access straight away. It can't recall data the AI app already received; to have that deleted, ask the company behind it.

9. Club Offers

If you turn on Club offers, golf clubs can show you offers inside Cardie, picked using your most recent round and your location. This is optional and off unless you turn it on; you can turn it off at any time in Settings. Cardie picks who sees an offer; clubs don't learn who you are unless you contact or book with them yourself. Each offer is made by the club, not by Cardie. Its price, availability and conditions are the club's responsibility, and any deal you make is between you and the club.

10. Handicap

10.1 Not an official handicap

The Cardie handicap is Cardie's own calculation, modelled on the method of the World Handicap System™ and applied to the rounds you save in Cardie. It's for amateur and social golf among Cardie users. It isn't an official handicap, and Cardie isn't licensed, approved or endorsed by, or affiliated with, the USGA, The R&A or any national golf association. Handicap Index®, Course Handicap™, Playing Handicap™, Course Rating™, Slope Rating™ and World Handicap System™ are trademarks of the USGA and The R&A, and are used here only to describe the system Cardie's calculation is modelled on.

10.2 Accuracy

We work to get score extraction and handicap calculation right, but we can't promise either is error-free. Review your scores after each scan or live round; your handicap is only as good as the rounds you confirm.

10.3 Handicap certificate

Pro users can download a signed handicap certificate as a PDF. It reflects your Cardie handicap and round history. It's a Cardie document, not an official handicap certificate, and whether a tournament accepts it is up to the organiser.

10.4 Rating basis

You can choose whether your handicap uses men's or women's course ratings and slopes, as defined by the WHS. It's a calculation setting. It shows as a small badge on your avatar to members of your groups and events. If you don't choose, men's ratings are used. You can change it at any time.

11. Groups and Events

11.1 Groups

Anyone can join a group. Creating groups beyond the free limit needs Pro. Group members see each other's rounds, leaderboards, events and activity, subject to the controls in Section 6.3. Groups work across courses and countries.

11.2 Events

Group members can create events: stroke play, stableford, skins and other formats, scored gross or net, at one course or remotely (members play different courses within a time window, ranked by differential). Creating events beyond the free limit needs Pro.

11.3 Organisers

If you organise an event, you're responsible for its rules, for communicating them, and for handling disputes. Organisers can assign handicaps to players who don't have a Cardie handicap. Published leaderboards are visible to the event's participants.

11.4 Participants

By joining an event, you agree to its rules. Your name, scores, handicap (if used), rating basis and scorecard image are visible to other participants.

11.5 Notifications

Cardie sends push notifications about group activity, events, leaderboards, reactions to your rounds, views, and personal bests. You can control them per group and overall in Settings, and in your device settings.

11.6 Disputes

Scoring disputes are between the participants and the organiser. Cardie provides the platform; it doesn't rule on scores or results. If you think someone has submitted fraudulent scores, tell the organiser or support@cardie.golf.

11.7 No gambling

Cardie isn't a gambling platform. Don't use it to organise wagering that breaks the law where you are.

12. Intellectual Property

12.1 Cardie's IP

The Service, its design, branding, logos and technology belong to Mapraow Labs Pte. Ltd. or its licensors. You can't use our trademarks or branding without our written permission. Map tiles, imagery, course data and weather come from third-party providers, under their terms.

12.2 Feedback

If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them without restriction or payment. You don't have to send any.

13. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CARDIE DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

In particular, we don't promise that:

the Service will always be available or free of interruptions;
scorecard recognition, GPS distances, hole detection or shot measurements will be accurate;
AI-written recaps, explanations or bag readings will be accurate or complete;
your Cardie handicap will be accepted by any third party;
data will never be lost. You can download a copy of your data at any time.

This doesn't limit any guarantee that the consumer law of your country gives you and that can't be excluded.

14. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CARDIE'S TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIMS ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR CARDIE PRO IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM.

CARDIE IS NOT LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS OR GOODWILL, EVEN IF WE WERE TOLD THEY WERE POSSIBLE.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can't be limited by law. If you're a consumer, some of these limits may not apply to you where you live; in that case, our liability is limited only as far as your local law allows.

15. Ending Your Account

15.1 By you

You can delete your account at any time in the App's settings, or by asking us. Your account then has a 30-day grace period: it's deactivated and other users can't see your data. If you sign back in during those 30 days, the deletion is cancelled and everything is restored. After 30 days, your personal data is permanently deleted as described in our Privacy Policy. Deleting your account doesn't cancel a Store subscription; cancel that in your Store settings (Section 4.6).

15.2 By Cardie

We may suspend or close your account if you break these Terms, act fraudulently, or if the law requires it. Where we reasonably can, we'll tell you first, unless the problem needs immediate action.

15.3 What survives

When your account ends, your right to use the Service ends. Sections that by their nature should continue, including Disclaimers, Limitation of Liability, Governing Law and Disputes, continue.

16. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Singapore, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you're a consumer, this doesn't take away the protection of mandatory consumer law in the country where you live.

17. Disputes

If something goes wrong, please contact us first at support@cardie.golf. Most things are fixed faster that way. If we can't resolve a dispute within 30 days, either of us may take it to the courts of Singapore. If you're a consumer in the EU, the EEA or the UK, you may also bring a claim in the courts where you live.

18. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms. If we make material changes, we'll tell you in the App, by email or both, and the App will ask you to review and accept them before they apply to you. If you don't agree, you can stop using Cardie, cancel any subscription in your Store settings, and delete your account.

19. General

Entire agreement: these Terms and our Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and Cardie about the Service.

Severability: if any part of these Terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.

No waiver: if we don't enforce part of these Terms, we haven't given up the right to.

Assignment: we may transfer our rights and obligations under these Terms as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, and we'll tell you if that happens. You can't transfer yours.

Store terms: where you got the App from the Apple App Store, Apple isn't responsible for the App or for support, but Apple and its subsidiaries may enforce these Terms against you as third-party beneficiaries, as Apple's standard terms require.
